Being inspired by Dutch and Flemish painters, such as Peter Paul Rubens, we began our initial exploratory for the title sequence, interstitials and closing sequence. To keep the sincerity of Stephin Merrit's personality, we decided the most visual compelling answer was going to come from his storage of personal artifacts. Many compositions and still life set ups later, we ended with cool and sincere clips that we then over layed in the edit. To offset the palette and speak to the quirkiness that is Stephin Merrit, we designed cell animation type for the information.
